The Shiva Lingam, a Sacred Story

The Shiva Lingam is one of the most sacred icons of the ancient as well as the modern world. These lingams come only from the Narmada River in the Central Western part of India.
Those of you who have seen the movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, may recall they were searching for the sacred stone. The Shiva Lingam is that sacred stone.
Accessible only during the dry seasons, these stones are collected from the river bed by only a few families who have been trained in the way to identify only the most special pieces.
Once collected, these incredible artisans finally shape and polish the stones to bring out the natural markings which are inherent in their composition, much like a diamond cutter who cuts the rough material to bring out the best in the diamond.

Symbolism

The Tantric Linga or Lingam is an ancient, ethnic, ritual object, used for centuries in India. This upright, oval form representing raising consciousness dates back to the early Indus Valley Civilization. Any material shaped in this form can be called a lingam, however, only those naturally formed of gemstone material (Chalcedony) with an iron oxide and geothite inclusion can be referred to as a Tantric Lingam. This rare form of Chalcedony is only found in its natural asymmetric form on the banks of the Narmada River in central India. There, they are hand-shaped and polished into their beautiful symmetric form. Each lingam has a totally unique coloration or combination of male and female energy. Tantrically identified as the embodiment of oneness or non-duality, the Tantric Lingam represents the union of opposites or universal harmonies. The body of the gemstone represents male energy. It is also identified subconsciously with our physical origin, an embryo.

Traditionally used to worship the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva, this powerful aesthetic, Zen looking gemstone is finding expanded use in the New Age. Modern technology has identified the material as "Crypto Crystalline Quartz" or tiny microscopic quartz crystals. As such, the Tantric Lingam has a precise resonance in alignment with our Chakra centers. Lingams are also known for their beneficial effect on environments. There is nothing like a large lingam in the garden!
Recently, the Narmada River was dammed up. There will be no more authentic Narmada River Lingams and their value is expected to skyrocket! Beware of fakes, copies & imitations.
